"Snowman Creator" - Gallery

"Snowman Creator" Gallery

This December, I decided that I wanted to make a Christmas/holiday game, and the result was "Snowman Creator". It's a seasonal dress up game that allows you to create a unique snowman, enter a personal message then screenshot it to create a digital Christmas/holiday card that you can share with anyone.

I created the game by myself using Construct 2, and Photoshop to create the graphics. It took about 3 weeks of steady(ish) work to make it.

Here is a screenshot of how the game looks to play...

...but the real fun is in the "Take Picture" feature, which hides the menus and takes a screenshot of your custom snowman that you can save and share with family or friends as a digital holiday card.

I uploaded the game to the Scirra Arcade on December 18th - one week before Christmas - and throughout that week the game was played over 200 times.

So to celebrate Christmas and the game's success, here is a gallery of snowman pictures that myself and various players created!

So there we have it! I'm very happy with how this game has turned out and the response it received and I'm excited for whatever my next 2D game project will be!

PUCK! - New Browser Game Project

I'm finally making a new blog post after a long hiatus! This week, I began making a new browser game on my new, gamedev-focused laptop. I call it "Puck!" and it's inspired by the classic video game, Pong.

This project started out as a learning exercise; I planned to simply remake Pong in the hopes of learning more about it's design process, however I quickly decided to take it further and make my own game using the same basic gameplay.

Here's a few screenshots of the game as it is now. It is still unfinished, it's about 60% done at this stage. I plan to make all-original music for the game aswell.

Spaceship Mechanic is finished! - 2D Sidescroller

My first ever browser game is now finished! Spaceship Mechanic is a 2D puzzle/platformer made using Construct 2. I made this game as way a of diversifying my portfolio and honing my level design, graphics and game audio skills. All graphics, music and audio were created by me specifically for this project.

This has been quite an ambitious project for me, as I have only been using the software for 5 or 6 months, and I have created everything in the game from scratch, including the music and sound effects and I even roped in my girlfriend to do some voice acting as the ship's computer/game announcer. This project also served as my first experience with animation. I made some simple character animations such as running and jumping - the animation frames can be seen on the character sheet below.

NEW PROJECT - 2D Sidescroller!

I've now finished all of my work for University and all that's left to do is wait for my grade and graduation. I've got 3 weeks left in Preston and I've decided to use that time for a new project: I'm going to make a 2D sidescroller game using Construct 2.

I've used Construct 2 a lot this year. I made 2 prototype user interfaces and 1 small, simple game using the program and I've become quite experienced with it, but this project is a bit more ambitious. This will be the first full, playable game I've ever made. It is tentatively entitled "Spaceship Mechanic" and involves fixing a malfunctioning space ship.

I don't have too much work to show yet. So far, I've created a prototype game map and I've been learning how to make simple movement systems, such as jumping and collecting things, in Construct 2 (using placeholder art).

Here is a picture of the game map and the Construct 2 file.

Stay tuned for more updates on this project!

Diner In The Desert - Final Submission!

Diner In The Desert

At long last my honours project is finished! I'm really happy with how it's turned out overall. This is only the 2nd scene I've made using UE4 and PBR texturing (the first being my Throne Room for the Polycount/Allegorithmic contest) and I feel like I've learned a lot.

Here's some pictures of the final scene...

...and a video!

Diner Update - 1 Day Until Submission!

There's only 1 day left until I submit my Honours project and I've been working non-stop to get it finished to a high standard. I've been frantically modelling and texturing for the past week and the scene is finally approaching a state of completion. Here's how the scene looks now.

There's still some stuff to do, like modelling clutter items for the diner interior, but the scene is definitely nearing completion and should be finished by tomorrow!

Diner Update // Canyonrush Crew - Loads of 3D models!

I've spent the last two weeks frantically 3D modelling assets for my Honours project and my Games Proposal project. Here's some pictures of my latest work...

Diner In The Desert

I've now fully textured the car for my Diner In The Desert scene:

Now for a Canyonrush Crew update. In my last post I included some pictures of a rifle that I was modelling. The rifle is now finished, and I've also done 4 more models: a revolver, a cowboy hat, a cutlass and a tomahawk.

All of these models will be displayed on my 8-foot tall banner at the end of year degree show:
