Finally the 2nd asset for my Gravedigger scene, the gravestone, is done! This one took a while to get started on because of other projects I've got going on (music etc) but in the end only took a few hours work over two days. Again, it's a very simple, low poly prop made in Maya and textured in Photoshop, complete with Shakespeare reference ;)
More to come!

Making a Coffin - 3D Modelling
Over the past couple of days I've gotten to work on the creation of the 3D scenes that I talked about in my previous post. I've began with a "Gravedigger" themed scene. This is going to include a number of assets such as a spade, coffin, gravestone, a wooden chest, and some small plants, modeled and textured from scratch.
Today I finished modeling and texturing the first of the assets; an old, beaten-up, wooden coffin. It's taken slightly longer than I expected, mostly because of lack of free time and having to battle with software issues (UDK is a moody sod), but it's finally done and I'm pretty happy with it!
I threw together a UDK map and textured it (not my own textures, unfortunately) and imported the asset for this beauty shot. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how the finished scene turns out!

First Year of Uni Complete!
Yesterday was my last day of my first year as a Games Design student at UCLan and I'm happy to say that I passed with a grade that I'm very happy with!
Luckily the end of the year hasn't caused me to lose my motivation, and I've now got a nice little 4 month Summer ahead of me before it's time to go back. I've already got plans for productive ways to spend it. First of all, I'm going to create some game environments/scenes, like the cellar/prison scene that I created earlier in the year. As I type, I'm downloading Maya and Photoshop so I can get to work on this ASAP.
On an unrelated but equally productive note, I'm also hoping to finally get round to writing/recording/producing some music over the Summer. Since starting University in September I've spent more and more of my spare time writing and playing music. Now that the year is finished, I'm going to devote even more time to this and get some stuff made!
